“Lord, let me know myself so that I may know You.”
–St. Augustine of Hippo
This weekend we celebrate our Augustinian Heritage at all our Masses as we commemorate the Feasts of both St. Monica and St. Augustine. As a parish steeped in the traditions of the Augustinian Order, we find much of our parish art & heritage centered on the charisms handed down to us over the centuries woven throughout the writings of St. Augustine. It is important for us to recognize our unique place in the Augustinian family throughout the world. There are over 2700 men and women who follow the Rule of Augustine and consider themselves as members of the Augustinian Order along with the various other religious communities that also use Augustine’s rule as the foundation of their life in Christ.
The major tenant in the Rule of St. Augustine is founded in Acts of the Apostles, Chapter four, where the newly formed Church of Christ holds all things in common, sharing their goods and services for the good of all. It is here that we find our efforts as a stewardship community sharing time, talent, and treasure with one another and with those in need.
St. Augustine calls us to a unique type of spirituality by focusing on our interior life in Christ, reminding us that our journey of faith is one that takes us deep inside our minds and hearts and we travel together on our way to God.
As we gather this weekend in prayer, let us call upon St. Augustine and his mother Monica to intercede for us as a parish community. Let us reach out to those still reluctant to claim their rightful place in the community by inviting your neighbors to join us in prayer and service to God’s people. May the wisdom of Augustine strengthen our resolve to reflect what he has handed on to us as a priest, bishop, and doctor of the church.
Monday through Saturday at 8:30 AM in the Chapel for Morning Prayer.
All are welcome!
